Kick Platform in Turmoil: Can It Survive Adin Ross’s Departure and Content Moderation Backlash

Popular Streamer Adin Ross announced on December 7th, 2024, that he would be stepping away from Kick and instead attempting to be reinstated on Twitch following his ban in February of 2023. The controversial streamer had teased his departure in the past; however, nobody really took him seriously until now, as he had been the face of Kick for a while.

In an official statement, Adin said:

“ I will be making a full video on why I am leaving Kick indefinitely. I am stepping down officially, and I will be going into detail about this, this week. I will tell you all everything.”

There are likely many reasons for Adin’s departure from the platform he co-founded; however, realistically, it has to do with the moderation of the platform and the differences between Kick CEO Edward Craven and Adin himself. Earlier in November, Ross did mention something about “exposing” the CEO, so their relationship has likely been strained for some time.

This also comes after fellow streamer Sneako ranted at Adin for “bringing him to Kick,” only to leave him behind within a matter of months. Sneako also claimed Adin would be moving to his previous platform, Rumble, which prides itself on free speech, but that looks quite unlikely.

It wasn’t just Sneako who was upset with Adin, though, with XQC taking some shots at him for being unprofessional and having a “lack of decorum.” But realistically, what are XQC and the others expecting? Adin has been known to be immature and rash with decisions, and his chat is one of the most toxic places on the internet; this isn’t out of character.

XQC Responds to Platform Critiques Following Adin Ross’ Departure

Outside of just crapping on Adin, XQC has been one of the first streamers to defend Kick following his departure, particularly shooting back at Mizkif after he stated, “Kick is genuinely a dead website without Adin Ross.”

After Mizkif’s remarks about decreasing viewership, he reacted:

“Brother, I understand all you want to do is hate, and it’s fine, but don’t act like it’s a fact. Like you need to stop this thing where you wanna be right, so what you say is a ‘fact‘….It’s wrong in every metric; Your RAGE hasn’t streamed in forever, Adin Ross hasn’t streamed in forever, and the actual raw stats behind Kick have never been better.”

XQC then aimed low at Mizkif, pointing out his past view botting controversies and highlighting how hypocritical he was being. XQC said:

“Brother, Mizkif was viewbotted for like a year straight. Yeah, it wasn’t him doing it, whatever, right? If you said about a Kick streamer, you say, ‘Oh my God, that’s just cope, he’s definitely botting.’ Where was that when Miz was having it?”

While XQC may have been simply heated, there is some truth to the matter, with many Twitch streamers looking down on Kick despite both platforms facing many of the same issues.
