Biography & Background

Artour “Arteezy” Babaev, a Canadian Dota 2 prodigy, has been a constant face in the scene since 2013, outlasting many of his rivals from back in the day. Born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and raised in Canada, it’s not hard to understand why he would pick up gaming. He was locked inside throughout the cold months, falling in love with StarCraft II and Dota.

It wouldn’t take too long for his professional debut at age 16 during MLG Columbus. During this journey, he showcased the player he would later become, leading the underdog team to victory against titans like Team DK. This early win, coupled with his exceptional individual skill, quickly garnered attention, making larger organizations take notice.

In 2014, Arteezy then joined the newly formed Evil Geniuses roster alongside renowned players like Universe and Fear. This now iconic lineup quickly made a name for itself, dominating the competition with top-tier finishes at major tournaments, including a third-place finish at The International 2014.

However, he wouldn’t stay with Evil Geniuses for long, as Arteezy’s career was always marked with tons of high-profile team moves. He joined Team Secret in 2015, somehow managing to find even more success before going back to Evil Geniuses. This pattern of shifts between these two powerhouse organizations really defined his career, showing that he wasn’t being carried by his teammates in any way. He was the catalyst for these teams’ success.

However, in mid-2024, Arteezy retired and finally decided to step down from playing professionally, posting a lengthy message on Instagram to commemorate the moment.

All in all, Arteezy has cemented his name in the history of Dota 2, with very few players having a resume even close to his. And that’s not even to mention his numerous record-breaking MMR stats, consistently ranking among the highest-rated players in the world. His aggressive playstyle, innovative hero picks, and clean farming have never done him wrong. If you can do the basics well, you can always get better and innovate new playstyles.

Games Streamed & Style

Arteezy primarily streams Dota 2, holding a sizable chunk of their overall viewership on Twitch at times, with some games getting quite heated. He’s also become well known for his aggressive, carry-oriented approach, which holds people’s attention far better than a slow or methodical playstyle.

While playing Dota 2, Arteezy focuses on these factors:

Career Highlights

Here are some of his Tier 1 wins:

Valve Tournament Curse

Arteezy is often referred to as having a “Valve Curse,” meaning he seems to perform quite a lot better at non-Valve events.

While he’s managed to take home a number of top-tier finishes at huge international tournaments, his record in Valve-organized events, particularly The International, has been somewhat inconsistent.

Most Memorable Moments & Highlights

Arteezy has been having a blast over the last several years, even proposing to his girlfriend a couple of months back.

Here are some of his best gameplay moments:

Arteezy’s Crazy Phantom Assassin

While playing Phantom Assassin, Arteezy managed to turn around a play where he looked to be getting caught, turning it into a nice 4-kill play. From running to diving under a tier 2 tower, a serious display of skill.

Templar Assassin Game Winner

During an end-of-the-game play, Arteezy clutched up for his team, managing to grab three kills in quick succession and dig his team out of a bad dive.

Gambling Controversies

After signing with Kick, Arteezy took a different approach, as he began gambling on stream, much to his viewer’s chagrin. Kick, being owned by Edward Craven signed many big names to stream Stake.com slots, but the backlash Arteezy got was seriously strong.

Fellow Dota 2 streamer Gorgc also shared his thoughts during a live stream:

“I’m not sure if Arteezy is a big gambler or something, he doesn’t strike me as one but you know, he’s..uh, he likes money I suppose… People will hate Arteezy for gambling now, they will hate him anyway, right? But the people who like gambling and that kind of stuff, they’re going to watch him more so he’s just getting paid either way, right? So, the haters just don’t win. As long as he doesn’t care, it doesn’t matter. it’s actually a W for him that he gets called out on Reddit that’s kind of crazy.”

Even with the move to Kick and all the heat he’s gotten for gambling on-stream, Arteezy’s still a beast in the Dota 2 scene. Over ten years of experience, big wins, and his signature aggressive style have locked in his place as one of the all-time greats.
