How Much Does Skipping Ads Cost Streamers? XQC Makes Bold Claim About Twitch Revenue

XQC commented on how much money he loses every year by deciding not to run ads on July 1, 2021, but evidently, for some streamers, the extra income isn’t worth potentially driving away viewers.

It’s common knowledge in the streaming world that live ads are one of the largest income sources for a number of streamers, seeing as live stream ads are typically 3 minutes. Even several years ago, there was quite a bit of drama surrounding Asmongold, exposing just how much a single click of the “ad” button would pay out.

Asmongold talks about the Twitch Bounty Board program on stream.

However, XQC has revived the conversation yet again, stating, “Do you have any idea how much money I lose every day with no ads? That would be 365 x 6,000. With one click getting rid of ads, I lost 2 mil this year.”

Twitch viewers still get the mandatory pre-roll ads despite his claim, as QXC went on to say, “Yeah, you shouldn’t be getting any more ads except the pre-rolls that are literally Twitch-certified. The only way to remove those ads will be to remove my partnership. So that would mean I wouldn’t have a subscribe button anymore, and then, the chat would become complete dog s**t. So, we’re not doing that.”

He then said the quiet part out loud, stating, “Just for you, I’m so charitable and cool,” understanding that ads are the bane of a viewer’s existence.

That being said, just a few months ago, Buddha, another large streamer, actually called XQC out for his use of ads on Twitch.

At the time, Buddha had some serious words for XQC, stating, “I’m getting hit with 14 ads, brother – you’re already rich. I don’t understand why I have to watch so many f*cking ads.”

When XQC then tried to fight back, stating the ads were automatic, Buddha said, “ I stream on Twitch – I know you’re lying, it’s not automatic; you’re lying.”

Why are Ads so Lucrative for Streamers Like XQC?

Streamers like XQC, NickMercs, Pokimane, or IShowSpeed greatly benefit from ads because of their large audience reach. On platforms like Twitch, payment is based on impressions (views) or clicks.

In simple terms, streamers with thousands of viewers per stream get thousands of dollars if even a small percentage of viewers watch or click an ad.

Imagine that xQc has 120,000 viewers and just 1% clicks on an ad. At a typical ad rate of a few cents per click, that’s thousands of dollars per stream. And considering people like XQC stream for hours daily, this adds up fast.

Large streamers are also enticed by the platforms themselves to play ads once they get to a certain size, receiving a more favourable ad payout.

This is because the platforms need to run ads in order to pay for the bandwidth of each stream.

Just a couple of days ago, Asmongold talked about Twitch being unhappy about losing “over a million dollars a month” running his alt stream. Asmongold said, “There is going to be a good chance that I might actually have to… I might have to partner the channel. If I look… rank 10 on the entire platform. That’s a lot of money!”
