12-Day Sleep Challenge Leads to YouTuber’s Ban, Hours Before Breaking World Record

Popular online content creator Norme has achieved the world record for not sleeping without the assistance of any stimulants but was unfortunately temporarily banned by YouTube during the process.

Norme has become famous since 2020 for his challenges and hilarious clips, but staying up for 12 days straight was his largest project yet, looking to beat Randy Gardner’s 11-day record.

For the record, Robert McDonald did stay up for a crazy 453 hours back in 1986, but that was done with heavy stimulants, so the record really does not stand.

Moreover, due to the negative health effects not sleeping has on the body, the Guinness Book of World Records refused to track the record altogether for safety reasons.

We don’t need an army of little content creators getting sent to the hospital for sleep deprivation for content.

However, Norme, the mad lad, managed to make it through over 250 hours without sleeping for a moment. These hours were mostly spent in a delirious state, as Norme looked like his body was completely shutting down, walking in circles, hitting the wall, and making little to no sense.

During this time, many viewers begged Norme to stop the stream, worrying for his overall health, as this was his third attempt at staying awake for more than 12 days straight. Three attempts within a month would be worse for your brain than literally doing hard drugs over the same amount of time.

His chat continuously spammed things like “This is wrong,” “Please just sleep, bro,” and “Let him sleep,” people were genuinely horrified. It was almost like watching a mental patient at times.

This all culminated in YouTube ending his stream, banning him temporarily, and scrubbing the stream VODS from the internet.

Norme was quick to go to Twitter, though, calling out YouTube before resuming his stream on Kick.com. On Kick, he was able to finish out the last hours of his stream, breaking the record for 17-year-olds.

Why Was Norme Banned?

At the end of the day, what Norme was doing is extremely dangerous and could even lead to death if you had an underlying condition. The Guinness Book of World Records, which has allowed any and every record to be recorded realistically, refuses to acknowledge this challenge for a reason.

YouTube took a stance to stop the live stream and delete the VOD, likely to stop other would-be content creators from attempting the challenge for clout. Somebody like N3on, for example, would run face-first into a challenge like this as long as it brought in viewers.

YouTube went on record stating:

“It looks like Awake for 12 days WORLD RECORD LIVE 24/7 didn’t follow Community Guidelines. To help keep our community safe, we removed it from YouTube.” and “We think your content didn’t follow our harmful and dangerous policy.”
