Twitch Streamer Turning Athlete: Kai Cenat Aims for Basketball Career

Popular Twitch streamer Kai Cenat recently announced that he would be taking a step back from live streaming to chase a professional basketball career. Kai, who had just finished Sekiro in a 46-hour-long marathon stream, dropped the bomb on his chat, much to their dismay.

Kai stated:

“The gaming sh*t is cool. The streaming sh*t is cool. It’s time to take it up a notch. Chat, until further notice, I am quitting streaming, okay? I will no longer be streaming anymore.”

Many began spamming L’s in chat while others simply laughed, thinking back on how badly Kai played in previous streamed basketball games. The guy is 5’4 at the end of the day, meaning unless he’s somebody like Mugsey Bogues, he has 0 chance of making the NBA, especially at his age.

In response to the criticism in chat, Kai said:

“You might be like what the f*ck. Listen to me; don’t laugh, don’t laugh. No, no, don’t laugh. I get drafted in a few days. I don’t know whether I will be drafted, but I am in the lottery, okay? I am in the lottery for a league. Don’t laugh, bro.”

After the stream, Kai also tweeted on his X account, saying goodbye to his fans and announcing his retirement. Kai said:

“I’m quitting streaming and becoming a professional basketball player. Goodbye.”

Later that same day, he dropped a viral trailer for his draft on X, showcasing himself as a potential NBA draft prospect. In his tweet, he said:

“Going professional. Draft day is September 27th at 8 pm EST.”

The only problem with this whole thing is that there is no real draft going on any time soon, meaning this is likely going to be some type of content-creator basketball league or another event hosted by Kai.

What League is Kai Cenat Going to Play in?

As we mentioned, Kai Cenat isn’t necessarily known for his athletic ability or his height; quite the opposite, in fact. He’s a short guy without the hops or athleticism trying to make it through sheer determination.

Just take a look at how he played in the 2024 NBA Celebrity All-Star Game; he was mid-to-nice, with a one-star rating. He literally only made one bucket and managed to block a woman, Rubi Rose.

Realistically, Kai may be announcing his own content creator basketball league or even just partnering with a well-known basketball brand, but he’s definitely not going to play professionally.

Even if Kai did somehow manage to strike up a deal with an NBA team, he would never see the court. It would be more of a “make-a-wish” type deal, with the content creator hanging around pros for content.

All in all, this is likely just a big stunt for some publicity, as Kai is truly one of the best entertainers in his generation, but only time and following us on X for daily updates will tell where he ends up.
